Foals in the field

Prairie Thunder Ranch is a performance horse breeding farm. We raise Holsteiners and Andalusian crosses. Our goal is to always produce exceptional sporthorses with the correct build and personality to perform at the highest levels of competition. We usually have purebreds and partbreds available for sale and breeding. If we do not have what you are looking for please feel free to contact us anyway. We may be able to refer you to someone who does have the horse you are looking for. Please look around, enjoy yourself, and visit often. Please scroll down to view anything new happening at the ranch. The beautiful picture above shows some of our mares and foals in their summer pasture. The picture was taken by Deb Makinney a professional photographer in CO.

More about Prairie Thunder Ranch

Our ranch is situated on the beautiful grass lands of western South Dakota. We have a great view of the Black Hills and of the magestic Bear Butte. Bear Butte is sacred to the indians of this area, and it is also quite beautiful. The advantage of living on the plains is the availability of good grass lands for grazing the horses and for cutting our own hay. Over the spring and summer months the young horses and the broodmares enjoy their days grazing on about 150 acres of good grass, as seen in the above picture. In the winter months all the horses are moved closer to the barn and are free fed hay from big round bales that we cut and bale ourselves. The photo to the right is of a beautiful December sunset taken from our front yard. Photo of Sunset

Prairie Thunder Ranch News

Our AHHA Mini site was a huge success!

This was the first time we've held an inspection on our place. Needless to say we were very nervous but we shouldn't have been. We had lots of volunteers, thank goodness. We couldn't have gotten it done without all of your help. The horses did great and the judge was super. Our mare Sterling Moon PT (by Stealth S and out of Gwyneth)pictured top left was Grand Champion with a score of 46 placing her in the MMP book. The reserve champion mare was Navaar (by Sabotage and out of Cayla) pictured top right, owned by Sam Geolz with a score of 46 as well. Our mare Star Spangled PT (by Riverman and out of Foxfyre) came in a close third with a 45 and our new mare Pal Amor (by Amour) was fourth with a 44. All in all the mares did terrific!

Our stallions also did quite well represented by their offspring. We presented three yearlings by Legado, two were merit and one, Lyric PT (out of Shenandoah PT) pictured above left, was premium with a 7 and 8! One of Czar's 2007 foals was presented, Zamaya PT (out of Prairie Rose PT) pictured above right and that one scored premium with a 7 and 8! This filly belongs to our good friend Laura Kaye. Two other Czar foals went in the arena with their mothers but were not judged. The judge told us if he had been judging those colts they would have scored premium as well!!!

We are very pleased to announce that our young three year old stallion Liberty's Fyre PT just passed his RPSI inspection and is now approved for breeding in Book I with the RPSI!

Photo of Liberty      We are very proud to introduce Liberty's Fyre PT. He is a full brother to our stallion Legado De Fuego and is proving to be not only an incredible athlete but a horse with an incredibly kind and willing disposition. He is out of our Holsteiner mare Foxfyre and by the Holsteiner stallion Le Santo. He has been added to the stallion page with a full pedigree and breeding information so please check the stallion page or select his name above for that information. This photo was taken in March, 2007 just before he turned three.

The reason that we had no news to share with you about the horses last year, I had a baby on October 6th, 2006! We are very proud to introduce the newest addition to the Prairie Thunder Ranch family, Kaylee Grace Christians.

Photos of Kaylee

Here is one picture of Kaylee as a newborn and two around 4 months old.
